Introduction to Salvage
Hey all!
It's a little strange writing an intro to Salvage a year after starting it, but truthfully it took a while for the game to really take the shape that felt right. A year of outlining, drafting, rewriting, and kicking around character studies later, though, it's kind of gotten there. We're at a point that I'd like to start writing devlogs and tracking progress as we start to make the game itself. (And possibly eat my words when it changes again.)
The concepts
It feels a bit redundant to post all of the art + content that already exists, but you can view the art + concepts + comics so far here. I'll just drop a few illustrations for tone here:
The pitch
Salvage is a visual novel about chronic pain, grief, and unknowable abyssal horrors. It's about what's found at the bottom of the sea. And how it finds you.
The game
These screenshots are in no way representative of the final game. (I say this as a caution but then again I guess I should be more knowing with how test assets often turn out.) Click to enlarge.
The game features "dive" gameplay as well as life aboard the salvage rig.
The characters
Somehow I keep forgetting to include character information like "name" and "gender" in these sheets but that's honestly fine the information that's included is much more important anyway. I'll just type out the info in twitter style bio for reference.
Marin Pike / she / 24 / yes im in the sinkhole
Dr. Analyn Cross / she / 39 / leave me alone
The credits
Mel - Writer, braincell
J - Artist, programmer, devlog writer
Thank you!
